Trenitalia strengthens its network in France with the opening of the Paris-Marseille line This Friday, June 13, Trenitalia France previews its new high-speed line between Paris and Marseille, in the presence of Edoardo Rixi, Italian Vice-Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Jean-Pierre Serrus, Vice-President of the South Region, elected representatives of the metropolis, Marseille City Hall and elected representatives of the areas served by the line, as well as Matthieu Chabanel, Chairman and CEO of SNCF Réseau.

TRENITALIA This inauguration marks an important step in the operator’s development in France, with a clear commitment to strengthening connectivity between the capital and the south of the country. Trenitalia is continuing its expansion in France with the commercial launch of this route on June 15, the summer’s big news. With four daily round trips, Frecciarossa trains will link Paris to Marseille in around 3.5 hours, with the first departure from Paris at 5.52 a.m. and the last at 7.02 p.m. This new service will enable passengers to reach the Mediterranean quickly, comfortably and in a top-of-the-range setting.

“With this new Paris-Marseille route, we want to offer a sustainable and accessible alternative, without compromise. It’s a direct response to the expectations of those who are looking for a fast, comfortable and more environmentally-friendly way to travel, whether they’re going on vacation, a weekend getaway or a business trip”, Marco Caposciutti, President of Trenitalia France.

This new high-speed line not only benefits passengers travelling between Paris and Marseille, but also offers new mobility opportunities for the regions it passes through, thanks to stops at the Lyon Saint-Exupéry, Avignon TGV and Aix-en-Provence TGV stations. The opening of the Paris-Marseille route is part of Trenitalia France’s wider strategy of market expansion and stimulation. The company has chosen to broaden its offer, as it has already done on the Paris-Lyon route, where trains now run from 6:30 am to 8 pm. This greater flexibility responds to changing travel habits and helps make trains more attractive than other modes of transport.

This dynamic is also helping to develop the market as a whole. On the Paris-Lyon line alone, Trenitalia observed an increase of over 40% in passenger numbers in 2024, proof that the arrival of a new player does not fragment demand, but on the contrary encourages growth in the sector.
